Recently I went walking with my daughter who’s home from college.
As we shared tidbits of what we’d learned lately, I mentioned a sentence that stood out to me as I read my Bible that morning.
To be honest, it’d been a while since I read the Bible. I’d let my quiet time slip in midst of a busy fall. As I spent time in God’s Word, I remembered why it matters and how relevant it is to everyday life.
In Deuteronomy, Moses had just spent 40 years leading the Israelites to the Promised Land. They faced major challenges along the way—and witnessed major miracles—and now they were drawing close.
As the leader, Moses had been tested. He’d dealt with constant griping, complaining, and ungratefulness from the Israelites. I imagine he was ready to reach this destination, eager to step foot in this land.
But in the final stretch, God confirmed a change in plans. Moses would be allowed to see the Promised Land from the top of a hill—but not enter it. This hill is where he’d eventually die.
