Moms, one thing I’ve learned about teenagers is that being proactive doesn’t always come naturally.

Especially if your child is quiet, shy, or introverted, they may prefer to sit back and wait for someone else to take the initiative. They may need extra coaching from you to be proactive in talking to a teacher, bringing a concern to a coach, inviting a friend to hang out, etc.

I wrote the message below after having a great conversation with a mom about the importance of teaching our daughters the art of the invitation. (If you have a son, you can adapt this message for him). When I shared this on Instagram, it got a great response. I’ve put it into article form to make it easy to share with your child.

Rather than train our children to sit back, wait, and expect someone else to act first, let’s teach them to take the lead. Let’s remind them to be the blessing rather than expect a blessing. Let’s empower them to learn this priceless skill that will serve them well in life, both now and …
